About Crochet Unraveled

Hello there! I am so happy you are here at Crochet Unraveled. My name is Kailey and I am the face behind Crochet Unraveled. I started this site because of a) my love (obsession, really) for crochet, and b) I noticed a lack of crochet blogs and websites who provide literally everything you need to know about crocheting and in a beautiful format.

When I was re-learning (I’ll get to this in a second) how to crochet, I found myself having to Google how to do certain stitches or techniques and then scroll through a lot of information before I really found what I was looking for.

Crochet Unraveled was (is still being) built to provide a single location for everything you need to know about crocheting. Whenever you have a question, you should be able to come here and find a helpful answer. Now, you will have to bear with me as I am only one person and I can’t create everything at once. It’s going to take me some time to put everything together, so I appreciate your patience along the way.

I am committed to putting this site together to help you become an excellent crocheter and be confident that you can read and make any pattern that you want! Speaking of patterns, I will also be providing free patterns on this site and ad-free versions of my patterns will be available on Etsy, Ravelry, and the shop on this website (coming soon).

Each time you learn a new stitch or skill, there will be recommended patterns that you can make immediately to practice your newfound knowledge. This will help you to get what some like to call “quick wins” by making something cute to wear or a useful item right away.

Keep an eye out for the pattern for these cute granny square earrings once the granny square tutorial is live!

When I was a kid, I absolutely loved making things. I remember that my cousins had a whole cabinet full of craft supplies. Every time I went to their house I wanted to open up the cabinet and just sit at the dining room table coloring and making things. It was like everything beautiful was held inside that cabinet.

My maternal grandmother noticed that I liked crafting (I like to call it ‘making’ because some people think “crafting is like art but ugly”…. Not true!) and she taught me how to crochet at a very early age.

I remember making my mom a really soft velvety blanket and making (rather ugly) scarves for myself (haha!). Eventually, I kind of gave up on crochet because I didn’t really have access to patterns and I was slowly forgetting how to do the stitches.

In early 2019, I found myself with some free time while watching tv in the evenings and decided to follow some patterns that I found through Pinterest. I had a ton of yarn that I had accrued over time and I remember making a cute little cactus with a bright orange flower and then a pink sweater using a pattern that I found on Etsy.

When I showed my grandma the sweater, she was very impressed and that encouraged me to think that this could be something that I could actually get very good at. She showed me Ravelry where I discovered the vast amounts of patterns that are available to crocheters (and knitters, too). She told me which Facebook groups to be a part of and I became amazed and impressed by the sheer amount of makers that are living among us. (Honestly, who knew?!)

I had no idea that crocheting was such a big part of so many peoples’ lives and it inspired me to be a part of this incredible fun, creative, and positive community.

That is how I became inspired to create this little site. It is truly a labor of love and I hope that it will help not only those who are new to crochet, but also those who have been crocheting for years. The vast amount of techniques available in crochet will provide endless topics for me to cover.

I also would love your input on what you want to know about crocheting and what types of patterns you want to make. If you want to know something, really anything, about crocheting, yarn, and all of the various crocheting tools, just let me know and I will do my best to answer it!

I will see all of your comments on my posts and I am available through email, as well. Do not hesitate to reach out to me! This should be a very collaborative website and I will help you find your answers. Even more than that, I hope that you find the same joy and excitement that I have found and developed through crochet.
